Testing & Certifications

Australian Standards | Product Certification

Tested and certified aluminium window and door systems supporting specification confidence, DBP Act compliance documentation and Occupation Certificate requirements across commercial and residential projects.

Product testing and certification is the foundation of a defensible specification. For architects and specifiers, certification confirms that a product performs as claimed under independently verified test conditions. For builders and developers navigating DBP Act compliance, certification documentation forms part of the evidence chain required to support Design Compliance Declarations and Building Compliance Declarations on the NSW Planning Portal. Hunter Windows supplies and installs aluminium window and door systems from the AWS Elevate range, which carry certification across structural performance, weather resistance, bushfire, child safety and acoustic categories. Certification documentation is available by system and series to support project specification and compliance requirements.

Certifications & What They Mean

AS2047 — Windows in Buildings

AS2047 is the primary Australian Standard for windows in buildings, covering structural performance, water penetration resistance, air infiltration and operation. Certification to AS2047 confirms that a window or door system has been independently tested and verified to meet these performance requirements under specified conditions.

AS2047 certification is relevant to:

  • Structural performance under wind loading
  • Water penetration resistance at tested pressure levels
  • Air infiltration performance
  • Operation and durability testing
  • DBP Act Design Compliance Declaration requirements for facade and building enclosure elements

All AWS Elevate window and door systems supplied by Hunter Windows are tested and certified to AS2047. Certification documentation is available by system and series on request.

BAL-40 — Bushfire Attack Level

BAL-40 certification confirms that a window or door system has been tested and certified for use in areas designated as Bushfire Attack Level 40 under AS3959 — Construction of Buildings in Bushfire-Prone Areas. BAL-40 is one of the highest bushfire risk designations before BAL-FZ (Flame Zone), and certification at this level requires specific frame construction, glazing and sealing to withstand ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact.

BAL-40 certification is relevant to:

  • Residential and commercial projects in designated bushfire-prone areas
  • NCC compliance for buildings in BAL-40 designated zones
  • Council and certifier requirements for bushfire-affected sites

Selected AWS Elevate series carry BAL-40 certification. Series-specific certification is shown in the Available Range section of each product page. Confirmation of BAL-40 certification for a specific system should be verified with Hunter Windows at specification stage.

Safe4Kids — Child Safety

Safe4Kids certification confirms that a window system meets child fall prevention requirements under the relevant Australian Standard. Certified systems incorporate friction stays or restrictors that limit the opening width of the window to reduce the risk of child falls from height — a requirement under the NCC for windows in certain locations in residential buildings.

Safe4Kids certification is relevant to:

  • Multi-residential apartment buildings with windows above ground level
  • Aged care and education buildings where fall prevention requirements apply
  • NCC compliance for operable windows in habitable rooms above ground floor level

Selected AWS Elevate series carry Safe4Kids certification. Series-specific certification is shown in the Available Range section of each product page.

Acoustic Rating

Acoustic certification confirms that a window or door system has been independently tested to measure its sound reduction performance, expressed as a Weighted Sound Reduction Index (Rw) or Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. Tested acoustic ratings provide verifiable performance data for use in acoustic design and NCC compliance modelling.

Acoustic ratings are relevant to:

  • Multi-residential apartments adjacent to road, rail or aircraft noise corridors
  • Education and aged care buildings with acoustic separation requirements
  • Commercial buildings in urban noise environments
  • NCC compliance for habitable rooms in noise-affected locations
  • Development consent conditions specifying minimum acoustic performance

Acoustic ratings vary by system, series and glazing selection. Glass specification has a significant influence on overall acoustic performance — refer to the Glass Options page and the Acoustic & Performance resource page for further detail.

WERS — Window Energy Rating Scheme

WERS provides independently verified U-value and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings for window and door systems, used in NCC energy compliance calculations and thermal modelling. WERS ratings are the recognised method for demonstrating window energy performance under NCC Section J and BASIX requirements.

WERS ratings are relevant to:

  • NCC Section J energy compliance for commercial buildings
  • BASIX compliance for residential buildings in NSW
  • Thermal modelling and energy performance simulation
  • DBP Act Design Compliance Declaration requirements where energy performance is a regulated design element

Refer to the Energy Performance resource page for detail on WERS ratings, U-values, SHGC and NCC energy compliance.

Requesting Certification Documentation

Certification documentation for AWS Elevate systems supplied by Hunter Windows is available on request and includes:

  • AS2047 test certificates by system and series
  • BAL-40 certification by system where applicable
  • Safe4Kids certification by system where applicable
  • Acoustic test reports by system and glazing configuration
  • WERS rating certificates by system and series

Documentation requests should specify the system type, series and intended application. For DBP Act compliance purposes, documentation should be requested at specification stage to allow sufficient time for inclusion in regulated design packages.
