Sliding Window Systems

Large Opening & Horizontal Movement Systems

Aluminium sliding window systems delivering large panel capacity, unobstructed views and space-efficient operation for commercial, multi-residential and architectural projects.

Sliding window systems are widely specified where large opening widths, minimal frame sightlines and horizontal panel movement are required. Their space-efficient operation – panels slide rather than project outward – makes them particularly suited to balconies, corridors, tight external clearances and facades where swing clearance is a constraint. Hunter Windows supplies and installs sliding window systems from the AWS Elevate range, available across multiple series configurations to suit project scale, glazing requirements and performance specification.

Typical Applications

Sliding window systems are commonly specified across:

  • Multi-residential apartments and balcony-facing openings
  • Commercial office and mixed-use developments
  • Education and public buildings
  • Aged care facilities where ease of operation is a priority
  • Architectural homes with large glazed openings
  • Facades where outward projection is not possible or practical

Key Performance Considerations

System selection should account for:

  • Panel size and weight — sliding systems can accommodate large panel widths; series selection determines maximum dimensions and structural performance
  • Weather resistance — tested water penetration and air infiltration performance varies by series; exposure conditions and building height influence appropriate series selection
  • Acoustic performance — glazing selection and frame depth affect acoustic outcomes; relevant to apartment, aged care and education applications
  • Thermal performance — U-value and SHGC ratings vary across series; the ThermalHEART series provides thermally broken frames for projects with elevated NCC energy requirements
  • Hardware and operation — roller quality and track design directly affect long-term ease of operation, particularly in high-use and aged care environments
  • Security — locking mechanism selection should reflect project security requirements and relevant Australian Standards
  • Glazing capacity — maximum glass thickness varies by series, affecting double glazing and laminated glass options

Energy Performance & Thermal Ratings

Sliding window systems are WERS rated, providing verified U-value and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) data for use in NCC energy compliance calculations and thermal modelling.

Key energy performance factors for specification:

  • U-value — measures the rate of heat transfer through the window assembly; lower values indicate better thermal insulation
  • SHGC — measures solar heat gain through the glazing; selection depends on climate zone, orientation and shading strategy
  • Glazing selection — performance outcomes vary significantly with glass type; double glazing, low-e coatings and laminated options are available across the range
  • ThermalHEART series — thermally broken aluminium frames reduce heat transfer at the frame, improving overall window U-values for projects with elevated energy performance requirements

SHGC and U-value ranges for each series are shown in the Available Range section above. For detailed energy performance data and climate zone guidance, see our WERS & Energy Performance and Thermally Broken Frames resource pages.

Integration

Sliding window systems integrate across facade, sector and specification decisions:

  • Facade Solutions — commonly used within window wall and commercial framing assemblies; suited to repetitive facade bays requiring consistent large-format glazing across multiple levels
  • Sectors — applicable across multi-residential, education, aged care and architectural homes projects, each with distinct operational and performance requirements
  • Specification — glass selection, colour finishes and hardware are all configurable; refer to the Specification section for detail on available options
